- Let's talk workspaces. Real Life VS Online
What type of workspace do you have? Is your space smaller? Do you feel like this holds you back from what you could potentially do? Do you regulate what you do b/c of the smaller workspace? Do you have room or a larger space? Do you take advantage of that and make a mess, or is it organized and always neat? Do you overbook yourself b/c you have the space? When you see cake/dessert videos on the internet, whatever platform you may use to watch reels, their space is always SPOTLESS, everything they do is always clean, their bags never burst, the crumbs never come off their "cakes" when they are crumb coating and they leave out A LOT and leave us wondering, what steps they took in between b/c when we try it, it doesn't work like that right?! I live in a classic style bi-level home that is 1702sq ft. When you come in, you can go down or up. Go up, to the left, & you will find the kitchen, living room, dining room area & pantry; two large bay windows on either side of the house. Go to the right, you will find the 3BR, your bathrooms, etc. Go down, you will find another living room space with another bathroom, the laundry room & access to the garage. Pretty standard. My space for the longest time was the entire upstairs to the left. No living room, no dining area. It was lined with tables & shelves. Until I realized that we all are adults now, my sons are 20 & 21 & there is no "common" area for us to hang out or have guests. Arrangements had to be made. Now, I just have the dining room area and the kitchen, and that's all I really need. We have 2 refrigerators & I have 1 upright freezer. I have always wanted a little studio that I could go to & use for pick-ups, classes & decorating away from the house. I still want that. I think we want to sell this place & try to get approx 5-7 acres. I would like that studio to be on my own property. We are working towards that goal! What is your workspace like? Do you care to share some pictures? I will share mine below! I love having the big window to look out into the backyard where the chickens are & it also provides a lot of light! The bottle of Vodka is def not for consuming! LOL wouldn't that make for a fun day of decorating! That is for the luster dusts that I use. Let's face it. Our work spaces are a mess! I have a crumb coating bowl that I use for excess icing. This likely gets tossed because it has cake crumbs in it unless I have some leftover cupcakes then my husband really doesn't care if there's crumbs in the icing or not! 😂 The scissors are for cutting bags, I use a regular Cake leveler and I go through multiple of these a year. I get them from Hobby lobby they're a couple bucks. I always pre-make icing by the buckets. It's ready to go, at this stage, I know how much I need to make for the orders that I have! My table to the right holds most of my supplies like my tips, my colored icing I'm using, my colors, current tools I am using etc! Its a 4' table the other 2 are 6' folding tables. Underneath the tables, are 27-gallon totes, as well as to the left- I had to switch to these for storage when I compacted my space. These are great. I get them from Menards for like $6 or $7 apiece. Realistic workspaces are cluttered & our stuff everywhere because we are working like madmen! Don't be fooled by what you see online, most of the product is not even real! I was following a baker when I first started, & she was doing all of these amazing things with cake & different sculpting techniques, just things that at the time I thought were almost unrealistic come to find out it wasn't even Cake that she was decorating it was sponges 😳! I was devastated from that point, I just decided that I'm not gonna really learn anything from anybody that is real. I gotta do it myself. Let's see those workspace photos and keep it real here! 🫶🏼 I think it is wise to work within your means so you don't get overwhelmed and nothing gets damaged! As we grow and get bigger, certain accommodations need to be made, and certain sacrifices need to be made, whether it is moving or not taking orders that we can't provide for effectively. The last thing we wanna do is upset somebody for their special day, whatever the occasion! Thank you for reading. I can't wait to see your pictures and hear what you have to say on the subject. - Want to talk buttercream?
It has been a while since I have posted here in the Blog section. To be honest, I really don't know how your supposed to use a blog, but I am going to learn! I want my website to be more than a place for just viewing, I want it to be a place of interaction & education. I won't go on about the medical side of my life but, if anyone wants to know please reach out and ask! I will say that, I have to slow down on the amount that I do not only weekly but monthly. Eventually, I would like to teach & create content for learning. I have never used fondant, so I wouldn't be the best person to ask about that, but if you want to know anything about buttercream I'm your gal! I get called a "Buttercream Connoisseur" or my favorite a "Buttercream Baroness" from just about anyone I run in to! It's quite flattering & humbles me very much! That seems like a good topic to start with #buttercream! What are your thoughts? What do you want to learn or know from me? What should we talk about? Below is the cake the won the Great #Cincinnati Bake-Off 2025. Shows you exactly what CAN be done with just buttercream! Frank is the scarecrow & Bob is the spider. They are carved cake & 100% decorated with my signature #americanbuttercream. They are both hand painted & air brushed for color. I think they are pretty neat! Thank you for going on this journey with me! By interacting & commenting, once I begin online content, I will give the OG's if you will, discounts, coupons, & freebies! I can mail you tips & tricks along with some of my favorite tools to use! Leave comments, ask questions, sahre your work if you want tips/tricks! Let 's work together and build a strong cake community! It makes people happy! #smiles #cake Thank you! Keep calm & Bake on friends! Just Roll with it!
